The Illustrations Created
Provided are digital scans of pen and ink illustrations and upon request may also send the physical illustration. Precision and Accuracy are the most important feature of my work. To accomplish this, measurements are taken with a variety of tools throughout the illustration process which depends on the direct availability of the subject.
Illustrating Artifacts in person is preferred for precision so direct measurements may be taken as well as observe details that may be indistinguishable in photographs.
Illustrating from Photographs requires working from multiple photos at various angles with good lighting in order for details to be visible and to create an accurate representation and scale.
Types of Illustration
While all of my illustrations are inked drawings, there are different styles that I utilize in order to provide the details desired by the client.
Stippling is the process of creating a highly detailed image from a series of very small dots. This technique is excellent for enhancing the details and texture of a piece.
Line drawings provide a simpler aesthetic and are good for highlighting specific aspects or information to be conveyed by a piece.
Here is an example of the different details that can be showcased using either a photograph, simple line illustration, or stippled illustration.
Choosing which method to use for each artifact depends on what details need to be enhanced for the goals of the project.
Pricing
When putting together a quote for potential work, I estimate the amount of hours I think it will take to complete the project and apply my hourly rate. There may be additional costs to factor in such as special equipment or travel expenses, depending on the project needs.
